Jungle king Kian Egan: I won’t cry if no one buys my solo album ...
Former Westlife singer Kian Egan has admitted he won’t be “crying into a pillow” if no one buys his debut solo album.
The 33-year-old signed his first ever solo deal with a major label on the back of his success in I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here last December. He emerged as the show’s winner, earning the title of King of the Jungle.
He revealed his new album will be “pop-rock and not a million miles away from what I did in Westlife”, but admitted he was weary of the music industry after 14 years in the boyband.
He added: “I’m loving the TV stuff and the light-heartedness of it. I think it’s a lot less serious than the music industry.
“The music industry can be a very harsh and negative place.
“To be honest the music is a bit of fun. I’m not taking it super seriously. I’m not going to be crying into a pillow if nobody buys it. For me it’s an opportunity that I’m grateful to be given.”
Egan, who has a young son with his wife Jodi Albert, announced his deal with Warner Music last month. The untitled album is due for release on March 17.
The singer, who is also a regular TV presenter, admitted he had been taken aback by the surge in his popularity following his stint in the jungle.
He said: “It’s been such a whirlwind, coming out of the jungle and being offered a deal by a major label. Being given that opportunity has really just blown me away.
“I never went into the jungle thinking, ‘I came here to try and get a record deal and try and release a solo album’.
“I think the jungle for me was a really fun experience I really wanted to be a part of.
“But the things that have happened off the back of it have been insane. It keeps snowballing. There’s loads of TV presenting stuff coming up. It’s just unbelievable.”
