He was the first to admit he was never the lead singer with Westlife.

But less than two years after the band went their separate ways, singer Kian Egan has proved he can be a solo star.

The Sligo star has significantly out-performed his friend and Westlife frontman Shane Filan after securing a UK top 10 spot following the first week of his debut solo album's release.

And Egan, who also positioned at number two in the Irish charts, said he has surpassed even his own expectations.

The 33-year-old has seen his profile soar since winning ITV series I'm A Celebrity last December.

After a string of offers flooded in, the dad of one revealed in January that he had signed a record deal with Warner Music UK to release his debut solo album.

The album, Home, was released last Monday and includes a duet with his wife, singer and actress Jodi Albert.

Egan is the second member of Westlife to step out on his own since the hugely successful chart-topping band went their separate ways in 2012.
