Kian Egan 'excited' about debut album
Kian Egan has launched his debut solo single today, Home, from his debut solo album of the same name and the former Westlife singer thinks the whole thing is "very exciting".
"[I'm] over in London at the minute, I'm working loads but it's all going very well," the 33-year-old told Rick O'Shea, who is presenting The Ryan Tubridy Show on 2fm this week.
O'Shea asked him if he knew he would eventually release a solo album: "I never expected it is the real answer. When I came out of the jungle and I got the phone call saying that a record label wanted to sign me, I was quote taken back by it."
The I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here 2013 winner added: "Everything seemed to be heading more in the TV direction which is what I was really happy [about]…and I was really enjoying. When the opportunity came about I thought 'I've gotta go for it'. What an amazing opportunity…to make your own album and have a major record label [Warner Bros.] get behind you and put it out there.
"It's all just happened really, really, really fast…but here we are, the day has come for it to be played for the first time in Ireland and it's very exciting."
Speaking about the new single Egan said: "It's not very well known on this side of the world, I don't think. It was a massive hit in America a few years ago for a band called Daughtry.
"The reason why this was chosen was that it struck a nerve with me every time I was listening to my iPhone or my iPod."
He added: "It feels right. It sounds the way I want it to sound for people to hear me for the first time. That's the other thing for me, an awful lot of people have never heard me sing a full song, they've heard snippets here and there.
"For me it was really important to have a song that I was really feel happy with and how I sounded on and it stood out for me so that's why we decided to go with it."
He added: "When it came to making the album we sat down to listen to a whole host of songs and I played this one and everybody was like that's an amazing song, 'You should do that'.
"I went into studio and I cut loads of songs and this one stood out from the start."
The new album, Home, is out on March 14. Listen back to the full interview and hear the debut single, Home, on 2fm on the RTÉ Radio Player here www.rte.ie/radio/radioplayer/rteradiowebpage.html
